Die Casting
We shoot melted metal into a steel mold at very high pressure, so it fills every tiny detail in seconds. It is fast, repeatable, and great for making thousands of the same part. Works with aluminum, zinc, and magnesium. Learn more in our die casting guide or our hot vs cold chamber explainer.

Gravity Casting
We pour melted aluminum into a reusable steel mold and let gravity pull it in (no pressure needed). The slower fill means fewer air bubbles, so parts come out strong and dense. Great when you need solid parts you can heat-treat for extra strength. See our gravity casting guide for how it works.

Low Pressure Casting
We gently push melted aluminum up into the mold using low air pressure. This careful fill keeps the metal smooth and bubble-free, so the part can handle pressure and heavy loads without cracking. Sand Casting
We pack special sand around a model of the part to make a one-time mold, then pour melted metal in. Once it cools, we break the sand away and pull the part out. The mold is cheap and can be huge, so this is the best choice for big parts or small batches. Read our sand casting guide to see how it works.

Investment Casting
We make a wax copy of the part, dip it in liquid ceramic to build a hard shell, then melt the wax out (that is why it is also called "lost wax"). When we pour melted metal into the empty shell, we get parts with crisp detail and a smooth finish, even in tough metals like stainless steel or titanium. Less machining needed afterward, which saves time and money.

Which custom casting process is cheapest?
It depends on volume. For under 100 parts, sand casting wins on tooling (around $500–$3,000). For 1,000+ parts, die casting wins on per-piece cost despite higher tooling ($20,000–$60,000 for aluminum). See our metal part cost guide for full breakdowns.
How much does casting tooling cost?
Sand casting patterns: $500–$5,000. Investment casting wax tooling: $3,000–$15,000. Gravity dies: $10,000–$30,000. Die casting dies: $20,000–$150,000+ depending on size and cavities.
How much does each cast part cost?
Small zinc die-cast parts: $0.50–$3 each. Mid-size aluminum: $2–$15 each. Sand-cast steel parts: $20–$200+ depending on weight. Investment-cast stainless: $5–$50 each. Quote varies by alloy, size, and finishing.
What's the lead time?
Sand casting prototypes: 2–4 weeks. Die casting tooling: 6–14 weeks, then days for production. Investment casting first articles: 4–8 weeks. We quote in under 24 hours.
Casting vs CNC machining: which is better?
For fewer than 100 parts or designs still changing, custom CNC machining is faster and cheaper. For 1,000+ identical parts, casting wins on cost and speed. We often combine both: cast the rough shape, then CNC the critical features.
Casting vs Metal Injection Molding (MIM): when to use which?
For small, complex steel or stainless parts under 100 g at volumes over 10,000, metal injection molding often beats investment casting on per-piece cost. Casting wins for larger parts, lower volumes, and alloys MIM cannot process well (most aluminum, magnesium, large steel parts).
Can you cast titanium?
Yes, through investment casting. Titanium isn't suitable for die casting due to its high melting point, but our investment casting line handles Grade 2 and Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) for aerospace and medical parts.
Do you handle machining and finishing after casting?
Yes. Every cast part can flow into CNC machining, heat treatment, anodizing, powder coating, plating, painting, and mechanical assembly. One supplier, one PO.
What certifications does Meco hold?
IATF 16949:2016 (which includes all ISO 9001:2015 requirements). Quality processes cover APQP, PPAP, SPC, PFMEA, plus CMM and X-ray NDT inspection. Production runs from Thailand and China, managed from Canada.
