What Is Custom Fabrication?
Custom fabrication is cutting, forming and joining metal stock into finished parts, with no casting or moulding. Meco runs seven of those processes in house: laser cutting, CNC bending, stamping, TIG, MIG, laser and resistance welding.
Most parts use several at once. An enclosure is cut, bent, spot welded, then hardware installed and coated. That full route is covered on our sheet metal assemblies page. Pair it with CNC machining and surface finishing and the part ships finished.

Welding procedures are qualified to AWS D1.1 and every job runs under an IATF 16949:2016 system, from incoming material through weld verification to final fit.

Questions People Ask
What does custom fabrication cost?
Roughly $3 to $15 for a cut and bent bracket, $0.30 to $5 for a stamped part, and $40 to $500 or more for a weldment. Drivers are broken down in our pricing guide.
What is the lead time?
Laser cut prototypes in 5 to 10 days, welded prototypes in 2 to 3 weeks. Stamping tooling takes 4 to 10 weeks, then 1 to 2 weeks per batch.
Which welding processes do you offer?
TIG, MIG, laser and resistance welding, all qualified to AWS D1.1 with NDT available.
What tolerances can you hold?
0.1 mm on laser cut features, 0.5 degrees on bend angle, 0.05 mm on stamped parts, and about 0.5 mm across a welded assembly. ISO 2768-mK applies unless your drawing says otherwise.
Is there a minimum order?
No MOQ on cutting, bending or welding. Stamping needs 5,000 to 10,000 parts to justify hard tooling, though soft-tool samples of 100 to 500 are possible.
Do you build complete assemblies?
Yes. We weld, install hardware, finish and assemble complete units. See sheet metal assemblies or mechanical assembly.
Can you weld aluminum and stainless?
Yes. TIG covers aluminum 3003, 5052 and 6061 and stainless 304 and 316, with correct purging for cosmetic thin-gauge seams.
