Automotive Parts Manufacturing FAQ
What is automotive parts manufacturing?
Automotive parts manufacturing is the making of precise parts for vehicles, from powertrain, chassis and interior parts to EV components. Meco makes them by CNC machining, die casting, metal stamping, forging and injection molding, then inspects and documents each part under IATF 16949:2016. Meco offers this as one turnkey manufacturing partner, from first sample to full production.
Is Meco IATF 16949 certified?
Yes. Meco's quality system is certified to IATF 16949:2016 across its factories. The standard builds on ISO 9001:2015 and adds automotive controls such as APQP, PPAP, SPC and PFMEA, and Meco has followed it for over ten years.
What materials do you work with?
Die cast parts use aluminum, magnesium or zinc. Forged parts use steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass or bronze. Stamped and machined parts add copper, and titanium is available for machined, investment cast and 3D printed parts. Molded parts use resins such as ABS, PA (nylon), POM, PC and PEEK. The materials table above lists every grade by process.
What documents come with an automotive order?
A typical submission includes a PPAP package (Levels 1 to 5), a first article report, CMM data, SPC charts, material certificates and lot-level traceability. Tell us which PPAP level your customer requires and we will plan for it.
What automotive parts do you make?
Powertrain parts (engine blocks, gearbox housings, shafts), EV parts (battery trays, motor housings, bus bars), and chassis, suspension, interior and electronics parts. See our parts section.
Which processes do you offer for automotive parts?
Metal parts are made by CNC machining, CNC turning, die casting, forging and metal stamping, and plastic parts by injection molding. Laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, heat treatment, finishing and mechanical assembly then complete the part.
Can you go from prototype to full production?
Yes. Meco covers the whole path, from prototypes (as few as 10 parts, typically in 1 to 3 weeks) through PPAP approval to 10 million+ units, under the same quality system.
How long does a quote take?
Quotes and DFM feedback come back within 24 hours of receiving your CAD files. Including material, volume, finish and drawing revision gives the most accurate number. For budgeting, see our metal part pricing guide.
Where will my parts be made?
Production runs in IATF 16949-certified factories in Thailand (20,000 m²) and China (16,000 m²). Engineering support is in the U.S., and headquarters are in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. Two manufacturing countries give you more supply and tariff flexibility.
How to Get Started
Send 3D models, drawings or specifications, with the material, finish and quantity you need.
We review your files and reply within 24 hours, with manufacturing feedback that can reduce cost.
For cast, forged and stamped parts, we build the tooling and you keep ownership. Machined parts go straight to samples.
Before the full run, we send samples with an inspection report, including an AS9102 first article report where your program requires one.
Meco manages production, finishing, assembly and worldwide shipping.
